How to enrol in a class and class fees ?
Fill in the enquiry form on this website. We will email you with our timetable and you can select a class you can manage to come along to. Or alternatively check out our timetable and booking site on this link here https://aapaaagc.class4kids.co.uk We do not offer free trial classes. To book a trial class you select the Trial class box and you can pay for the 1 class. Within 24 hrs of the class you will be required to let us know if you want a space in the class or not. Should we not hear from you / receive a reply to our trial class email after your class within the 24 hours we reserve the right to offer your space to another child. Class fees are paid per term and we do not offer refunds once the class is booked on the booking site or for sickness or holidays. Our Term dates are up on our Closed Parents Intranet site and advertised a year in advance. All our classes are booked on our Class 4 Kids site and payable on this site for traceability. Should you require to make instalments or a payment plan for your fees please get in touch upon enrolment and we can sort that out. Should you choose to withdraw from classes we need 4 weeks notice.
Unlimited Class fees – for children who don’t know which classes they want to do this maybe the ultimate solution. Subject to class spaces our unlimited class pass is a weekly charge that enables your child to do all the classes that they wish !
What are your Covid Procedures?
Once you have booked your class you will be emailed the day before your trial with a link to our parents Intranet site and our full Covid procedures and videos. There is a video on this site for what to expect upon arrival. Please show this to your child.
Our Doors do not open until 5 minutes before class. Please do not come too early as we can’t let you in.
Parents of Children 5 years and over are required to drop at our door with the class teacher- unless we have made previous arrangements for a nervous / anxious / shy child on their first trial day.
Parents of children 3-4 years old are required to remain near by for toilet. We have waiting areas but would encourage you to wait outside. If you come in the building you need to wait in a designated waiting area and sign in for Test and Protect.
Our Parent and Child Classes require parents to dance, sing and act alongside their child. Please keep in your space and remain 2 metres apart from other households. Children should remain distant too and it is the parent/guardians responsibility for this.
All adults entering the building are required to wear a grade 2 Medical Mask or waterproof alternative. All children aged 5 and over are required to wear grade 2 Medical Masks to walk in and out of classes. All Musical Theatre classes aged 4 years and above are required to have a face shield for the indoor singing elements of class.
Who are your Staff / Teachers that will be teaching my child?
You can find a full biography of our teachers on the Staff page on this website. All teachers have been first aid trained, PVG checked and Child protection trained. We also have an external Child Protection Officer for the School and gymnastics club which matters can be referred to or advice sought from.
Our staff also undergo Continual Professional Development through the year to ensure that we are teaching to the highest standards possible.
Do you have a uniform?
Yes we do ! It is not compulsory for your first class. We would encourage you to come along to a trial class. Once you decide to enrol in the school and continue with classes we would like you to get the Uniform as soon as you can. Uniform not only is vital for health and safety but also good discipline too. Our uniform is used for exams and often used in shows and events too. All uniform details are on our parents Intranet.
Are Exams Compulsory ?
No ! Examinations in all classes are optional. We would encourage students to take part as this is a great experience and passing is a great achievement. Often our higher up dance and musical theatre examinations attract UCAS points and can form a very important part in a personal statement for university entry.
Do you do Shows/Performances ?
Yes we do. Annually we have our Ballet at the Tivoli Theatre in Aberdeen. This is for students approximately 6 years old upwards and children must have been studying ballet classes with us for at least a year.
Our Junior and Senior Musical Theatre classes also perform their class Musical Productions twice a year at the Tivoli Theatre Aberdeen in January and June.
At various other points through the year we have afternoon tea presentation days where all classes are given the opportunity to perform exam work in a fun and informal way.
Our Musical theatre students are also invited to perform and represent AAPA at the Junior Festival Theatre Europe Event every May. We also take part in the National Theatre Connections Festival for those students who love to Act.
Our Acrobatic Gymnastics Club also take part in Gymfest events with Scottish Gymnastics.
Can students at AAPA / AAGC compete ?
Yes. We offer our students the chance to represent the school at competitions in the UK and abroad in dance and musical theatre compeititons.
Our Gymnastics Club (Aberdeen Acrobatic Gymnastics Club) have a select team which take part in Scottish Gymnastics Competitions through the year.
Musical Theatre students are given the opportunity to represent AAPA at the Junior Festival Theatre Europe Event.
Past Competition group trips have involved travelling to Disney Land Paris, Alton Towers, London and Edinburgh.
Competing involves extra expenses such as private lessons, rehearsals, entry fees, costumes etc. Students are required to show a high level of commitment to classes and meet a minimum standard before being eligible to take part.
Communications / Office Hours?
We do try and reply to emails promptly – within 24 hrs. Please be aware that we do not have a receptionist at the studio. We don’t often get a chance to get to the telephone as we are always teaching so if your message or enquiry is urgent please email or send a facebook message for the quickest response. We will not answer the phone after 4 pm weekdays or on a Sunday.
We send out a school newsletter every fortnight on a Friday. Once you have enrolled make sure you read them as it will detail important information !
Our parents Intranet is the place to go for all our communications and information you will ever need.
We have a closed Facebook group too. Please join this too once you have settled into classes.
You have a casting agency for Children how do I get my child involved?
We have a casting agency for our students who are under 18 years old. It is managed by Jennifer. We do only have children who attend our classes on the books. Students must have been with us for at least a year in classes (unless we decide otherwise) and must audition. Auditions are usually held once a year when we review which children we have in the agency. There are contracts to sign and it is an extra commitment especially in terms of time. There is an extra cost for Spotlight membership too and if you get any auditions it is expected that you comply with directions and submit the audition tapes. Some audition deadlines are short. Our agency is the first step towards a professional career in performing arts.
Timetables and Progression Through classes ?
Annually every May / June we review our class timetable and make changes for the new year starting in August. Rather than make big changes we try to just change the class name and level as the students progress. Where possible we start with keeping all children of the same age together until there is a split in ability and then we place students in class according to ability. Some students practise at home or attend more classes than others and this is how splits in ability can occur. The more you practise the better you become !
